Honda's 4-Stroke Advantage

Experience counts, and Honda has sold 4-stroke outboard motors in North America for thirty years—beginning long before other manufacturers admitted their advantages. While 2-stroke engines rely on gas or air to carry a thin oil film to critical components, our four-strokes bathe every internal component in oil under constant pressure. Ports in 2-stroke cylinders and pistons accelerate piston and ring wear. But there are no intake and exhaust ports in a 4-stroke cylinder or piston, so they can run with tighter tolerances for longer life.

Easy to Maintain Because of their cleaner, cooler-running 4-stroke design, Honda outboards require less maintenance and servicing than 2-stroke engines. And they're engineered to make the few things you need to do easy. You fill the oil the same way you'd fill a car. Checking your oil is also the same, using a calibrated oil stick. And the filter is easy to replace. Changing the oil and applying a little grease at key points will take care of your annual maintenance.

Warranty: Honda Outboards have a three-year non-declining, non-commercial warranty or a one-year commercial warranty.

This lightweight Honda is the only 4-Stroke two horsepower outboard available in today's market. It is ideal for tenders, small fishing boats or as auxiliary power. The BF2 is quiet and simple to run and there's even a model with neutral so you can sit idling at dockside. The BF5 offers the convenience of forward, neutral and reverse gears and much greater cruising range with a remote fuel tank. The Honda BF5 is designed to deliver high torque in a lightweight/compact package. Honda R&D used the design parameters of the new BF9.9 hp to mold the new Honda BF15. The result is a 15 hp four-stroke outboard just slightly larger and a little heavier than a 9.9. In fact, you really have to look for the horsepower label on the engine cowl to distinguish between the new 15 hp and the 9.9 hp Honda outboards.
